I stayed with grandma and grandpa two consequitive summers -- 1954 and 1955. This picture was taken by Mrs. Gardner (who lived across the street). Originally, it included grandma standing on the far right, arms folded in front and looking at me, and grandpa on the far left, brimmed, sweat-stained work hat on his head, standing straight, feet slightly spread, and resting the palms of his hands (one hand on top of the other) on the pointed handle of the shovel in front of him (spade end down, work gloves off and laying between his palms and the handle end). The first print included all three of us, but when she saw it, grandma insisted that she and grandpa be croped out, and Mrs. Gardner had that done.
